Multiplication Tables Games
Hi everyone,
I believe that it is essential for every student to develop a sound knowledge of their multiplication tables (or less formally, times tables). They form the basis of many other mathematical concepts, including multiplication algorithms, formal division equations, factors, etc. My own personal metaphor/analogy is that multiplication tables are like the foundation of as building. You need a solid foundation on which to build future understandings. Without this, your mathematical knowledge will not be as solid as it could be.
The following games enable students to learn their multiplication tables in a stimulating and exciting way. I have tried them both in the classroom and my students really enjoyed them. Click on the title of the site for access:
Times Tables Shoot Em Up Select practice mode – in which you get to choose the specific multiplication table you would like to focus on. You can also just click on start game, which will give you random multiplication tables. You have to move the ship along the bottom of the screen and shoot the correct answer. If the answers reach the bottom…game over!
The Table Trees Click on a tree to select a multiplication table, or put your own in the white space. From here own, its pretty self-explanatory. I really like this site because it challenges students who have mastered their 12 x 12 to develop their knowledge even further.
I hope these activities find a place in your classroom.
