One other attendee was killed, according to a local prosecutor, and US Secret Service confirmed that two spectators were critically injured.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” the 78-year-old presumptive Republican presidential nominee said later Saturday evening in his first statement since being rushed to the Pittsburgh-area hospital.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening,” Trump said on his Truth Social account.

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” he added.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”

The gunman wasn’t carrying identification on him and hadn’t attended the rally, according to sources.

His AR-style rifle was recovered at the scene, sources told the Associated Press.

Trump stood and gave a fist pump to the audience as Secret Service agents swarmed him in the wake of the shooting, making it erupt into cheers as he urged them to “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
