First Up Today
“Not the outcome we were hoping for:” Missing boy found
The search for a five-year-old Boy from Boise came to a devastating end yesterday afternoon.
Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said Matthew Glynn’s body was found in a canal around noon Tuesday about a mile from where he went missing the day before, near State St. and Alamosa. At this time, Winegar says it appears to be a tragic accident.
“Sadly this not the first time we have lost a life in the Valley to water, and sadly it will probably not be the last,” Winegar said. “Our hearts are broken for this family and the community.”
Matthew was last seen alive around 5:45 p.m. Monday when he wandered away from his birthday. Police, firefighters, and Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue were using “every resource available” to find him and Winegar called the effort “the highest priority in the city right now.”
During the search, Winegar said Matthew was “drawn to water.” He also had autism and was nonverbal.
“We are heartbroken over this development today. The water was initially our biggest concern and a large focus of our efforts.” Winegar said.
🍣 Eagle sushi chef opens new Boise spot with from-scratch recipes
A local sushi chef is expanding his operation with a new twist.
Bay Htwe, the owner ofKingfisher Sushiin Eagle, recently openedNanzayain the Collister Shopping Center off State St. in Boise.
For now, Nanzaya is serving sushi and pho. Htwe, who has been a sushi chef for more than 20 years, says the menu will expand in September to include Burmese cuisine.
“So like chicken masala type curry, sweet pork, barbeque pork and beef, and that will be paired with fried rice, regular rice, or coconut rice,” Htwe said.
Nanzaya doesn’t have a sign yet but it’s in the building where El Faro Mexican Food used to be. Htwe says it’s a completely different concept from Kingfisher, which will remain open.
“Nanzaya is named after my mother, she passed away in 2022. I wanted to do something in her honor. So this is an entirely different concept from Kingfisher but I feel like this neighborhood needs sushi too,” Htwe said.
Nanzaya is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. When dining at the restaurant, Htwe asks that customers keep in mind everything is made from scratch.
“We are family-owned and do not have a lot of staff and we take the time to make everything from scratch every day. We don’t pre-make everything so we ask that people be patient because we do make good food,” Htwe said.

Parental leave for foster parents
State of Idaho employees who become foster parents will now receive eight weeks of paid parental leave after welcoming the child into their home.
Governor Brad Little announced the new policy on Tuesday afternoon, stating he intends to make it easier for foster families to care for vulnerable children who need homes and families.
“Right now, we have more children in need of a foster family than we have families to help them,” Little said in a news release. “We are seeking to change that. Foster parents are heroes. They give of themselves and their resources to make a loving home available to children in need.”
The new policy will go into effect on October 1.
Little said he’s encouraging employers in the private sector to offer this benefit to foster parents as well. St. Luke’s Health System, the state’s largest private sector employer, currently offers two weeks of paid leave for foster parents.
