Has anyone had this happen? I got the clutch shudder repaired under the TSB (at 28K+ miles) but when I picked up my car at the dealership (bad word, I know) I noticed the shift lever was sitting up higher (longer) by about an inch. And then I noticed the shift pattern had moved - neutral position was now where 1st, 3rd & 5th gear positions used to be and 2nd, 4th & 6th gear positions were where the neutral position was originally. That means my "new" 1st, 3rd & 5th positions were so far forward the boot was stretched tight! I also noticed a metallic click when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. And this shop test drove the vehicle, too, before I got it back!! How could they not notice?!?!

Needless to say the car is back at the shop to get this fixed. Koons Mazda in Marlow Heights - never again!

Ragtop Girl,

I had a similar exprience with my clutch shudder fix. I brought in the car to get it fixed and got it back that night. My exhaust was much louder and I had a knocking/thumping sound when I shifted to 3rd or 5th. They took the car back and had to rebuild part of the tranny. OK?? They gave it back to me 2 days later because they had to order parts from Japan. I drove it home at the end of the work day and it would "fall" out of 3rd and 4th gears. Took it back and they fixed it right. Supposedly there was a burr on the shift mechanism causing the problem.

The dealership handled the situation with flying colors and even installed my RB header for $30. They gave me a free loaner car (Focus--YUCK!)for my trouble even though I had an OTM.

I feel your pain. ;)

Yep, my shifter had.....shifted!!
First/2nd were where 3rd/4th should be. R was laying flat over towards the pass legs.

They hoisted 'er up loosed the trans mountbolts and forced the tranny over which in turn forced the shifter into proper (almost) alignment. It was still a smidge (like totally, totally so much of a little) off but after a day or ten, I didn't even notice it.

Nothing as bad as you describe, but my brushed aluminum center console surround and shifter surround were trashed. Had to replace them. Thankfully they fessed up and paid for the replacement...but not my time to rip the old stuff off and install the new...that was 3 hours of my time. Buggers! And now I'm starting to have problems shifting into 2nd. Go figure. :ohno:

An update: the shift lever is pretty much back into position now. I got a call from Koons about 3:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon - the service advisor said the tech couldn't find anything wrong and could I come back so we could take it for a road test? To make a long story short, the service tech picked me up in my car and as soon as I got in I saw the shifter was almost back in its original position. The tech said he took the whole thing apart and put it back together again; he also found the rubber boot inside had moved out of position.

Boogie Daddy, like yours, it's not quite the same as before but it's OK. BTW, the shifting is smoother now but I don't notice a dramatic difference like some folks here on the Forum have.

JonnyMiata, how awful for you!! Thank goodness it's better now and the dealer did right by the customer. At Koons, both the service advisor and the service tech seemed genuinely concerned that I should be satisfied. They patiently answered my questions and listened to my concerns. But I'm going to think twice before I go back for anyhting else. (I, too, had a Focus loaner - yuck is right!)

And good luck Davbret!

I had mine fixed..
Initially... the tech didn't bolt up the header!
DUMBAZZ! When was the last time a Miata sounded like that!!! And he drove it around the building!!! Then I sat in the car and derpressed the clutch... IT WAS SOOOOOO SOFT!!! *** !
So I complained and they stated that it was a defective disc and needed to be replaced again...

Probably installed backwards!
Once it was installed... I had a coupla problems...

1) I have a driveline clicking / crackling when the clutch engages... sounds like metal (pressure plate?) crackling when under pressure as the clutch engages...

2) I now bizzarely have ENGINE dependant white noise coming through the passenger door speaker!!!

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???

Anyway... going back in this weekend...
We'll see!

RagtopGirl...
Here's a thread that is in the Forum Archives, click here.. (http://www.miataforum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=27;t=000070).

Sounds like the mechanics are bolting the transmission up wrong. Interesting. hmmm

Here we go again. :ohno: Now my clutch is overheating - the transmission tunnel, shift lever, and brake handle are all very warm (warmer than usual) and there is a burning smell emanating from the area. This happens after driving for many miles, not just the little hop to the corner store. I'm going to call the dealership this morning...
